How to give a sortition-based chamber equal constitutional status in Denmark
Join us for an engaging discussion on the effort to develop a constitution that would add a sortition-based second chamber of randomly selected citizens to complement the existing Danish Parliament (Folketinget). The model developed by Danish sortition advocates merges electoral legitimacy with deliberative equality, allowing both chambers to balance the other’s shortcomings.
Benny Nissen, INSA facilitator and founder of Sortition Foundation-Denmark, will describe the process, pitfalls, and outline the details in a proposed new constitution for Denmark.
In previous presentations, participants have learned the value of integrating sortition into businesses and organisations and some steps to achieve this.
Join Dr. Aaron Gain as he highlights case study examples of organisations that are using sortition—what has worked and what hasn’t.

Using Sortition and Georgism to reclaim the Earth for Everyone, One Plot at a Time
All life and civilization depend on nature. A fundamental function of government is to secure natural territory and develop rules for allocating its use. Efforts to legitimize the sovereignty of the people (sortition) must contend with the challenge of securing territory. This facilitated discussion explores how we might use the neoliberal world order, the corporate/legal tools of oligarchs, and the trend towards privatization to sidestep this challenge in the name of democracy.
Can we claim the Earth for everyone, one plot at a time, by aligning people’s self interest with a global, sortition-controlled land trust?

The Jury Trust Model: Nationalised Industries Without the Corruption
Presented by Oliver Milne, PhD. – Independent scholar and game designer based in Galway, Ireland. PhD in Philosophy from the University of Galway in 2024.
The control of capital is among the most potent of powers: the power to make or break people’s livelihoods, landscapes, and governments. There are limitless ways this power can be abused, and vast amounts of it can be amassed by its abuser. In this talk, Oliver will propose a novel model of capital ownership, the jury trust, in which allotted juries are entrusted with the stewardship of large firms, and make the case that this model can address the problems inherent to state and private ownership.
